Raewynn Atkinson

Raewyn Atkinson is a multi-award-winning ceramic artist currently based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Atkinson’s involvement with clay spans more than 30 years, during which time she has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, and received numerous awards for her work. She was the winner of the prestigious Portage Ceramic Award in both 2004 and 2015 and in the same year was awarded the Juror's Prize at the Gyeonggi International Ceramics Biennale in South Korea.

Fascinated since primary school by studies of Antarctica, Atkinson first visited the continent in 2000 as an 'Artist to Antarctica Fellow' and made the trip again in 2003. Those visits resulted in several major exhibitions inspired by the relics left by past human endeavours in Antarctica, along with her present focus related to global warming and tourism.

Atkinson's work is held in several collections including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, The Dowse Art Museum, the Auckland War Memorial Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art in Japan
